Duva: Kovalev as promised ended Ward’s career

Kathy Duva, the promoter of former world light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev said that her fighter had kept his promise when before the rematch against Andre Ward said that he would end his opponent’s career.

"Sergey before their fight said that he would finish Ward's career, as it happened. Kovalev will begin to return his titles in the very near future," Duva said.

Kovalev fought Ward twice and lost both times. The first fight last November ended in a controversial judges’ decision in favor of Ward. In the rematch in this June Ward stopped Kovalev in the eighth round.

Today, on September 21, Ward announced his retirement quite unexpectedly.
