WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight world champion Andre “S.O.G.” Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over former champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-2, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. After seven close rounds, Ward’s bodywork took its tool on Kovalev and referee Tony Weeks waved it off seemingly prematurely. Kovalev complained of low blows and wondered why the fight was stopped. Ward stated he might go to cruiserweight and didn’t rule out heavyweight.
