Puryear: "I was obliged to take the fight with St. Denis because I respect our sport"

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Porier commented on his early victory over Benoit Saint-Denis.

The Amercian knocked out the Frenchman in the second round at UFC 299 in Miami.

"I took this fight because he has finished his last five opponents. He's not much of a media guy yet, just starting to make a name for himself, but he's finished five in a row.

St. Denis is dangerous - every win of his career has come early, plus he never gives up. I saw that when he fought a friend of mine. All in all, I was obligated to take this fight as I respect our game. Defend your spot or vacate it, those are the rules of the sport. Benoit is a tough guy. If he wants to, he'll get back into a winning rut, there's no doubt about that," stated Puryear.
