Thurman on Garcia's mental state: 'I hope he gets the help he needs'

Former world champion Keith Thurman has spoken out about Ryan Garcia 's poor mental state ahead of his fight against Devin Haney.

"I just hope Garcia gets the help he needs. Of course nobody wants him to withdraw from the fight against Haney, but right now I would say it's not the time for him to fight. At this point, if he's not chasing a check, he might be better off thinking about his health and getting back into boxing another time. If it's just a minor setback, then get your shit together, kid, and get ready to put on a world class performance that the fans want to see.

You have an amazing fan base. You're a shining star in boxing, a lot of people support you. A lot of people love you. That's not going to disappear because of a couple of antics. It's more than just pop culture. You're more than a superstar.

I know what it means to be on that level. We're not perfect people. We're regular people, and that goes for all celebrities. I hope Ryan is getting the right advice right now. If he can pull himself together, have a great camp and put out a great fight, may God bless him. I wish him all the best," Thurman said.
