Usik’s promoter explained why Alexander is more popular than Lomachenko in Ukraine and the world

Promoter Alexandra Usika Alexander Krasyuk compared the popularity of his ward with the popularity Vasily Lomachenko.

“I really have great respect for Vasily’s sports career. To his father, to what they both did. They basically revolutionized boxing. The boxing he showed was outstanding boxing.

But let's face it regarding popularity: in Ukraine, Usyk has always been more recognizable than Lomachenko. Because Usik was in Ukraine, boxed in Ukraine, and the PR service worked in Ukraine. Therefore, at some point, Usik became the most mentioned athlete in Ukraine. Lomachenko’s popularity was due to the work of one person who is no longer with us. I'm talking about Sergei Dolbilov. He always said that it was wrong that Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic champion, did not have the corresponding fame in Ukraine. And he flew for his own money to the USA, from the USA, doing all this work. He did a lot to make Lomachenko popular in Ukraine. Whether someone likes it or not...” said the functionary.

Krasyuk also added that Usyk is now more popular abroad than Lomachenko, because he represents the “royal” super heavyweight and is the world champion in three of the four main versions.
