Trainer of former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder Malik Scott commented on the defeat of his ward from the former WBO belt holder Joseph Parker.
“It was a bad day. First of all, Parker and Andy Lee had a damn good game plan. Joseph did not stick his chin forward. He was heavy on his feet in a few fights, and I thought that if Deontay continued to be patient and jab, he would force Parker to get hit. However, Joseph did not stick his chin forward. He fought methodically.
Parker had a plan for the fight and he stuck to it. The best man wins, congratulations to Joseph Parker. I have nothing but sincere love and respect for him. He is one of the best heavyweights in the world. There is no shame in losing to Parker.
Deontay had a terrible evening. There were some things he could have done better, he could have done them right. He opened up too much and missed his chin a couple of times. Wilder didn't fill the pauses with the jab. Often in a fight, nothing would happen, and that was good for Parker, but not for Deontay,” Scott said.
Let us remember that on December 23, Wilder lost to Parker by unanimous decision in the co-main event of the boxing show in Riyadh.
