WBO superfeatherweight Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over former WBA champion Jason Sosa (20-2-4, 15 KOs) on Friday night at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland. Lomachenko dominated every minute of the fight. Sosa’s corner finally stopped the fight after nine rounds of punishment.
In the co-feature, undefeated Ukrainian light heavyweight Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk retained his NABF Light Heavyweight title and won the vacant NABO version of the title with a crushing third-round TKO of Yuniesky “The Monster” Gonzalez of Miami, FL.
Unbeaten cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk (12-0, 10 KOs) defended his WBO title with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Michael Hunter (12-1, 8 KOs) on Friday night at the MGM National Harbor, Oxon Hill, Maryland. Hunter gave Usyk some problems early but Usyk figured him out in round four. Usyk outworked him the rest of the way and was credited a knockdown over Hunter in round twelve when he knocked him into the ropes. Scores were 117-110, 117-110, 117-110.
Oleksandr Usyk (11-0, 10 KOs), from Kiev, Ukraine, and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, will be defending his WBO cruiserweight world title against Top-10 contender Michael Hunter (12-0, 8 KOs), from Las Vegas, Nev. This Saturday, the American introduction of Usyk continues with an HBO-televised title defense at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Oleksandr Gvozdyk (12-0, 10 KOs), from Kharkiv, Ukraine, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, enters this fight having won 10 of his last 12 fights by knockout.
