Fresh off his win over Derek Chisora, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says he has no plans to take an extended break. The American veteran has openly expressed interest in facing one of the division’s fastest-rising prospects — 21-year-old British heavyweight Moses Itauma.
Deontay Wilder may have already turned his attention to one of the most intriguing possible matchups in heavyweight boxing. After defeating Derek Chisora, the former WBC titleholder said he would be willing to step in with unbeaten British prospect Moses Itauma, a name gaining serious momentum on both sides of the Atlantic.
Asked whether he would fight Itauma, Wilder made it clear he has no interest in ducking anyone.
“Would I fight Itauma? Yeah. I’m in the heavyweight division — there are all kinds of characters here. Why not? I’m not avoiding anybody. I’m a veteran of boxing and I look forward to fighting everybody. If the fans want to see it — why not?
I didn’t know who Moses was before, but I watched his highlights and his last fight against Jermaine Franklin. He landed a hell of a knockout. You guys may have a future champion over there. So why not test him?” Wilder said.
The matchup would carry real stakes for the division. For Wilder, it would be a chance to prove he still belongs in the heavyweight elite and remains a dangerous name in the title picture. For Itauma, a fight against a former world champion with Wilder’s knockout pedigree would be the kind of leap that could fast-track him from top prospect to legitimate contender.
American fans would likely view the fight as a classic crossroads bout: an aging puncher with proven power against a young heavyweight many see as part of the division’s next wave. Itauma strengthened that perception just last week when he stopped Jermaine Franklin in the fifth round with a crushing uppercut, adding another emphatic finish to his growing highlight reel.
If this fight gains traction, it could become one of the more compelling heavyweight storylines to watch as Wilder looks for another big moment and Itauma pushes for a breakthrough on the world stage.
