Daniel Cormier, the former UFC champion in two weight classes, weighed in on the future outlook of lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan.
Daniel Cormier believes Arman Tsarukyan is still firmly in the mix for a UFC lightweight title shot.
According to Cormier, Tsarukyan’s rising profile outside the UFC is helping elevate his standing within the promotion, and influential figures inside the organization have taken notice. Cormier said he has personally heard people in the UFC describe Tsarukyan as a special talent who has built himself into a major figure and should be placed in position to fight for the belt.
"Because of what’s happening outside the UFC, Arman is becoming more and more popular, and influential people in the organization are noticing it. I’ve personally heard from them: ‘This guy is special. He made himself, became a significant figure, and we need to put him in position so he can fight for the title.’ Right now, he’s almost as close to a title fight as he was a year ago, when he was supposed to fight for the championship in Los Angeles," Cormier said, via Bloody Elbow.
