Alex Volkanovski called the first fight against Islam Makhachev one of the most important in his career.

What I did in that fight, how I performed, and many still believe I won... I remained the number one regardless of the weight class, it was madness. We broke records in Australia—in attendance, revenue, PPV. It was a significant fight, it lived up to all the hype. Even despite the defeat, I consider it probably one of the main moments in my career,” said Volkanovski.
