Will Chimaev leave the middleweight division due to weight-cutting issues?

Former dominant welterweight champion Kamaru Usman explained the current middleweight titleholder Khamzat Chimaev's desire to secure a fight with Alex Pereira, who holds the light heavyweight belt.

"The fact that my buddy Khamzat Chimaev continues to challenge [Pereira] for a fight suggests that Chimaev might have outgrown the division again [as he did with welterweight]. Now he thinks: 'Give me a chance to win this title and move to another division where I can break through and win it.' Because there are all sorts of rumors and nonsense about his weight. Supposedly, Khamzat already weighs 104 kg. Chimaev is a big guy; he’s always been like that.

The fact that Khamzat weighed 77 kg is as ridiculous as Anthony Johnson weighing 77 kg. But Rumble, remember, also moved up a weight class to 84 kg, maybe fought once at that weight limit and, it seems, didn’t make weight. And then he settled at light heavyweight. Khamzat could potentially move to this category as well. Perhaps that’s why he's asking for a fight against Poatan,ā€ Usman is quoted saying by Bloody Elbow.

Let's recall that Chimaev hasn't fought since August when he won on points against Dricus Du Plessis.
