UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria appeared in court in the Spanish city of Mostoles, where issues of child custody and administrative aspects of his divorce from ex-wife Georgina Uzcategui are being considered. The hearing took place on January 7 and concerned family matters, including the possible departure of the couple's daughter from Spain.
The fighter's ex-wife had previously accused him of domestic violence and family abuse, leading to a high-profile legal battle. However, Topuria categorically denies these allegations, stating he became a victim of an extortion attempt. “I will see my daughter again very soon, so I'm not worried at all. I am absolutely calm. My priority is my daughter, my children, my family,” the athlete is quoted by a Spanish publication.
The fighter had previously publicly explained that the accusations arose after he refused "unfounded financial demands" and provided authorities with evidence, including recordings and testimonies. Topuria expressed confidence in the judicial process, noting that the truth will soon prevail. The case has attracted public attention, but the athlete asks for the family's privacy to be respected.
It is worth noting that Topuria's last fight took place in June of last year at UFC 317, where he knocked out Charles Oliveira in the first round and won the vacant lightweight title. Due to personal issues related to divorce and custody, Ilia announced a career pause: he will not compete in the first quarter of 2026, and a return to the octagon is expected no earlier than spring.
