Daniel Cormier, former two-division UFC champion and current commentator and analyst, has spoken out about the repeated comparisons between Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
"They have a 28-1 record in the UFC for two with 17 early wins. That's an absurd result. But I don't know if it's fair to compare them. Especially considering that both fought Puryear, but Dustin performed better against Makhachev precisely because of the experience of the fight with Khabib. Puryear knew what he had to be ready for. And I've said before that Makhachev is more dangerous than Khabib because of his striking. But I don't know if we'll ever see a fighter as dominant as Khabib again. When has he not dominated his opponents? I think he would still be the champion after making 8-9 defenses of the belt already. Islam is ready to fight in the standup. And what Khabib would do, everyone knew. But no one could stop it," BJ Penn quotes Cormier as saying.
