The unified world champion in the cruiserweight division Gilberto Ramirez (48-1, 30 KO) confirmed that he will not have an intermediate fight before the scheduled bout with David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KO), the reigning WBC light heavyweight champion. Their fight is scheduled for May 2 in the USA.
The Mexican considered returning to the ring earlier this year to test his form after shoulder surgery, but his next fight will ultimately take place in May.
Zurdo, the holder of the WBA and WBO titles, fought only once last year, winning by unanimous decision over Yuniel Dorticos. For Benavidez, this will be his debut in the cruiserweight division.
