The unified world champion in the light heavyweight division Gilberto Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs) confirmed the information that he has a scheduled fight with David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs), the current WBC light heavyweight champion, in May. The meeting is set to take place at one of the arenas in Las Vegas.
Zurdo's team has already agreed on the financial terms of the fight. Before that, the Mexican will return to the ring on January 16 at the Golden Boy Promotions event in California, where he will face Robin Safar (19-0, 13 KOs).
Ramirez, who holds the WBA and WBO championship titles, underwent shoulder surgery in July due to an injury sustained in the June fight with Yunier Dorticos. Zurdo also stated that he is currently not interested in a unification fight with IBF champion Jai Opetaia and is not considering this option.
