Jake Paul Unveils Shocking Truth About Gervonta Davis Altercation: "Nobody Saw This Coming"

George Fields Sept. 22, 2025, 6:11 a.m.

The fight was originally planned for Atlanta, Georgia. But organizers had to change the location when the Georgia State Athletic Commission refused to sanction it. Now, the Florida State Athletic Commission has stepped in to oversee the event.

Timothy Shipman, Executive Director of the Florida State Athletic Commission, explained the nature of the bout:

"You can't do a fight like this as a professional fight. It will be an exhibition fight. I'm looking at the details right now. I mean, it's happening pretty fast. But I'm sure there will be other stipulations because you can't do it with the same requirements."

The matchup pits two very different fighters against each other. Jake Paul stands at 6-foot-1 and last fought at cruiserweight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, is 5-foot-5 and competes at 135 pounds.

Boxing fans are eager to see how this unusual pairing plays out. The exhibition has also caught the attention of other promoters in the sport. Eddie Hearn, who promotes Anthony Joshua, shared his thoughts on Paul's future prospects:

"They came to me and said they wanted to do that fight. I said I couldn't do that fight until you've fought Gervonta Davis in this exhibition. If Gervonta Davis knocks you out, don't think you're going to fight Anthony Joshua, it's ridiculous. So we'd rather they didn't take that fight if we're going to do the fight with [AJ]."

Hearn's comments suggest the outcome of this exhibition could have a big impact on Paul's career path. A strong showing against Davis might open doors to even bigger fights down the road.

As the November date approaches, fans and pundits will certainly keep a close eye on how both fighters prepare for this unique challenge. The clash of styles and sizes promises to make for an intriguing spectacle when Paul and Davis finally meet in the ring.
