Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson will step into the ring together next year. The boxing world got shaken up when the two legends announced their exhibition match for 2025.
Mayweather, now 48, has already started training. He's shared footage of his workouts, getting ready to face the 59-year-old Tyson. Iron Mike's last fight didn't go well. He lost to Jake Paul not long ago.
The match won't be the main event of the year, though. That honor goes to the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford fight, also set for 2025. Still, Mayweather vs Tyson has got people talking.
But not everyone's happy about it. Robert Garcia, a well-known trainer, doesn't think it matters much. He said:
"Nobody gives a damn. As long as they call it an exhibition, I'm fine with it."
Garcia thinks these kinds of shows are turning into a "circus." He pointed out that without an official winner, the excitement drops. He compared it to a potential Gervonta Davis vs Jake Paul exhibition, saying it doesn't really help professional boxing.
Kalle Sauerland, who runs Wasserman, a big promotion company, also spoke against the fight. He called it "madness" and wondered about the rules:
"Tyson with one leg? Floyd with eight-ounce gloves and Tyson with 18?"
The fight has made noise on social media, but the boxing industry isn't totally sold. Even though Mayweather and Tyson are living legends, people aren't as excited as you'd think.
At the end of the day, this match won't really help boxing grow. It's more about getting attention and making money. We'll have to wait and see if fans will buy into it or just see it as another show.
