Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Agree to Unexpected 2026 Showdown: "It's Not About Money"

Tyson's last outing in the ring didn't go well. He faced Jake Paul in November 2024 at AT&T; Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight, which had been pushed back once due to Tyson's ulcer, ended in a one-sided decision loss for the former heavyweight champ. Despite drawing 108 million viewers worldwide, fans weren't happy with the lackluster action.

Mayweather, on the other hand, retired from professional boxing in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record. His last pro fight was a blockbuster event against UFC star Conor McGregor. Since then, he's kept busy with exhibition bouts, most recently facing John Gotti III in August 2024.

The announcement of this matchup has sparked mixed reactions. Some fans have expressed worry about Tyson's health, given the age difference and his recent performance.

"Mike Tyson is gonna die in there," one fan commented online. Another said, "Who the f*** watched Mike Tyson look half dead fighting Jake Paul and thought this was a good idea??"

Tyson himself seems surprised by the matchup. He said:

"This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable - and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can't believe Floyd wants to really do this. It's going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it's signed and it's happening!"

Mayweather, true to form, exudes confidence. He stated:

"I've been doing this for 30 years and there hasn't been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy. You already know that if I am going to do something, it's going to be big and it's going to be legendary. I'm the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want."

CSI Sports and Fight Sports will promote the event. The exact date and venue haven't been confirmed yet. As unusual as this matchup might be, it's sure to draw plenty of attention as two of boxing's biggest names prepare to face off.
