Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO) notified the WBO about an injury and requested an extension for negotiations regarding the title defense against Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KO). The current deadline for both teams is August 23.
It is currently unknown whether Usyk will choose the fight with Parker or focus on another opponent that is more financially beneficial. In the latter case, Usyk will lose the title, and Parker will become the full-fledged WBO champion.
Perhaps then, Parker's first defense of his new title will take place against the winner of the Saturday fight between Moses Itauma (12-0, 10 KO) and Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KO).
