Mike Tyson showed up at Benghazi's Martyrs of Benina Stadium on Friday, causing a stir online as fans worried he might be planning a comeback at 59 years old.
The former heavyweight champ made a dramatic entrance, coming out of the tunnel to DMX's Intro and walking toward the ring with his usual imposing presence. DAZN posted "Here comes Iron Mike" on social media, and the clip spread like wildfire.
But Tyson wasn't there to fight. He came to watch the interim WBA featherweight title bout between Mirco Cuello and Sergio Rios Jimenez.
Still, fans couldn't help but worry about Tyson's health. Boxer Anthony Taylor wrote:
"Protect him at all cost..."
Other fans chimed in with similar concerns:
"Gosh I thought he was fighting then, thank goodness he's not."
"Our Legend is getting old. Love you Mike."
The worry stems from Tyson's most recent fight, an exhibition match against Jake Paul in 2024. Tyson went the distance but couldn't keep up with Paul's pace. Since then, fans have been begging Tyson to hang up his gloves for good.
Boxing has seen its share of comebacks over the years. Muhammad Ali famously returned to the ring in 1980 at age 38, with disastrous results.
In the main event, Mirco Cuello (16-0, 13 KOs) claimed the interim WBA featherweight title with a second-round stoppage of Sergio Rios (19-1, 7 KOs). Cuello dropped Rios once in the first round and twice more in the second to seal the deal.
Cuello might face Nick Ball next. Ball, the current champ from the UK, is set to defend his title against Sam Goodman on August 16, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That fight will air on DAZN PPV in the United States.
While fans don't want to see Tyson fight again, his legacy as Iron Mike remains untouchable.
