Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn might not get their rematch after all. The fight, set for September, is now up in the air because Eubank Jr hasn't signed the contract yet.
Benn and his team are worried. They've set a deadline for Eubank Jr to sign, but so far, he's been quiet. This comes just a few months after their last fight in April at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, where Eubank Jr won by unanimous decision.
The victory gave Eubank Jr bragging rights over his long-time rival, but fans were looking forward to seeing them go at it again.
Eubank Jr's manager, Napper Amoakoh, has a different story. He told Boxing Scene that his fighter is all in on the rematch:
"He's not trying to do no other fight. Conor Benn's a fight he wants. He wants to do part two, just like his dad and Conor's dad did and nothing has changed."
Amoakoh explained that lawyers are looking over the contract details. He said they want to finalize the deal as soon as possible.
If the Eubank Jr fight falls through, Benn might have another option. Eddie Hearn, Benn's promoter, told Talksport about a possible fight with Shakur Stevenson, the WBC lightweight champion:
"So if we don't get Eubank and he chooses to duck out of the fight, then why not Shakur Stevenson later in the year?"
This would mean Benn moving up two weight classes to face Stevenson, who's known as a pound-for-pound great. Hearn said Benn feels confident he could give Stevenson a tough fight.
We'll know soon what's going to happen. With the proposed September date just two months away, a decision has to come quickly.
