Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Peso Pluma are making waves as potential buyers for Atlas soccer club. The boxing champion and the singer have emerged as surprising candidates in the rumor mill surrounding the club's future.

Atlas, based in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, will officially start its sale process on July 15, 2025. Orlegi, the current administration, has kicked off a wave of speculation about who might take over the reins of the Liga MX team.

Canelo Alvarez, known for his wealth in the nine-digit range, has been linked to soccer ownership before. Fans previously dreamed of him buying Chivas Guadalajara. Now, attention has shifted to Atlas, another Guadalajara-based club.

Peso Pluma, a lifelong Atlas supporter, has thrown his hat in the ring. The singer's connection to the team runs deep. He said:

"Since I was a child, I remember that I always went to the Atlas stadium, I went to what is the Barra 51, which is the group that sings the songs of Atlas, it was always good. At some point I got more involved in the sport and in my team."

In 2024, Peso Pluma expressed interest in collaborating with Liga MX, with a special focus on Atlas. His love for soccer started in childhood, making this potential purchase more than just a business move.

Alfonso 'Foy' Urrea, a well-known Guadalajara businessman, has also entered the conversation. Urrea's close ties to Orlegi Sports and his current role on Atlas' Sports Council make him a strong contender. The council, which includes figures like Alejandro Irarragorri and Jose Riestra, makes key decisions about the first team.

Foreign investment funds have also shown interest, broadening the pool of potential buyers.

Despite the buzz, no one has formally expressed interest yet. The sale remains a dream for La Fiel, Atlas' devoted fan base.

Moelis & Company, ADS, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP will handle the transaction and transition. They'll look for buyers who understand Atlas' importance in Liga MX, its context, potential, and both sporting and social aspects.

As July 15, 2025 approaches, the soccer world watches with bated breath. Will it be a boxing champ, a chart-topping singer, a local businessman, or foreign investors who take Atlas into its next chapter? Only time will tell.
