Eddy Reynoso, the trainer of boxing stars like Canelo Alvarez and Oscar Valdez, is taking control of his gym operations. He's doing this to steer clear of doping rumors and PED controversies.
Reynoso's name has come up a lot lately when fighters test positive for banned substances. Jaime Munguia and Francisco Rodriguez Jr. recently made headlines for PED-related issues. Before that, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar Valdez, and Julio Cesar Martinez all had run-ins with banned substances. Reynoso wasn't directly blamed, but his name kept popping up.
Now, Reynoso's changing how things work in his gym. He told Ring Magazine's social media:
"Starting now, I'll be working 100 percent with a team that I can supervise"
Before, fighters brought their own staff - nutritionists, physical therapists, and medical consultants. But that's changing. Reynoso wants to manage everything himself to have total control over the boxers he trains.
This new approach comes after some tough times. In 2021, Oscar Valdez failed a drug test but still defended his title. That left a cloud of suspicion hanging over Reynoso's gym.
Looking ahead, Reynoso plans to get advice and put together a solid nutrition team. He wants to work more closely with VADA - the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. VADA's known for its tough, independent drug testing. They're respected for holding athletes and teams to high standards.
Reynoso's goal is clear - he wants to rebuild trust and make sure his boxing stars stay clean. It's a big change, but one he hopes will put the doping talk to rest.
