Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. The boxing legend has called out the retired champion to settle their ongoing feud in the ring.
Jones Jr., a four-weight world champion and Hall of Fame inductee, made his challenge in a video posted on social media. He's ready to prove who's better once and for all.
"What's happening fight fans around the world? I know y'all enjoy this thing of boxing, how we play games and people have their issues, opinions. That's cool. I got opinions and I'm allowed to speak my opinions. If somebody was trying to send me a subliminal message, it works. If you want to prove that you're better than me, I'm always ready. Wide open. Ready to go. Call me."
The call-out comes after Jones Jr. made some bold claims about Mayweather. He said Mayweather can't be considered a great boxer and would have lost to Sugar Ray Leonard.
Mayweather didn't take those comments lying down. He fired back by posting a video of Jones Jr. getting knocked out in one of his final fights.
Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record. He was a five-weight world champion who beat notable boxers like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Canelo Alvarez. Since hanging up his gloves, there's been constant talk about him coming back to face various fighters.
Jones Jr. competed from middleweight all the way up to heavyweight during his career. He won world titles in four different weight classes and is widely regarded as one of the most skilled boxers of all time.
While this potential matchup would certainly get boxing fans talking, it's unlikely to happen. Both men are well past their prime fighting years. But in the world of boxing, you can never say never.
