Manny Pacquiao's getting ready to step back into the ring. The 45-year-old boxing legend will face Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. But there's more to this comeback than just one fight.
Sean Gibbons, Pacquiao's longtime advisor, has big plans for the Filipino fighter. He's already looking past the Barrios bout.
"When he beats Mario Barrios, line 'em up. His dream fight is Gervonta Davis," Gibbons said.
This statement has got people talking about a possible showdown between Pacquiao and the undefeated Davis. Robert Garcia, a trainer and former IBF super-featherweight champion, thinks it's going to happen.
"Manny is going to fight Tank after that," Garcia predicted. He also suggested the fight could happen at a catchweight of 143-144 pounds.
But making this fight won't be easy. Davis isn't keen on the proposed 145-pound weight limit. There's also talk of Davis possibly facing Jake Paul, which could be more lucrative.
Despite these hurdles, Garcia believes a Pacquiao-Davis fight would be massive.
"It's a big f**king fight. It's a huge fight," he said. However, Garcia thinks Davis would come out on top if they do meet in the ring.
Right now, Davis has his hands full. He's set to defend his WBA super featherweight title against Lamont Roach Jr.
A fight between Pacquiao and Davis would bridge a big generation gap in boxing. It would pit the globally famous Pacquiao, now considered past his prime, against one of the sport's rising stars. If it happens, fans can expect an exciting match-up and some very big paychecks for both fighters.
