Deontay Wilder is coming back to boxing. The former WBC world heavyweight champion will step into the ring again on Saturday, June 27, at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Wilder's opponent for his comeback fight will be Tyrrell Herndon in a non-title showdown. The 39-year-old 'Bronze Bomber' hasn't fought since June 2022, when he got knocked out by Zhilei 'Big Bang' Zhang in the fifth round in Riyadh.
That loss was Wilder's fourth in his last five fights, leading many fans and experts to write him off. Some even thought he might retire. But Wilder isn't done yet.
In an interview with 78SPORTS TV, Wilder made it clear he's still got big goals:
"Here I am, the mission is the same, I gotta get these titles man, I gotta do what I gotta do, to feel that greatness, to show the world how great I am, like they know I am. It continues, and I'm looking forward to it. I feels good to be a veteran."
Wilder wants to prove he's still a force in the heavyweight division. He's focused on regaining the championship belts he once held.
The comeback trail might lead to some interesting matchups. Fighters like Jarrell 'Big Baby' Miller and Anthony Joshua are also looking to get back on top. They're all at turning points in their careers, which could set up some exciting fights.
Wilder's return has got boxing fans talking. Will the 'Bronze Bomber' recapture his old form? Or has time caught up with the hard-hitting heavyweight? We'll start to get answers on June 27 in Wichita.
