Canelo Alvarez wants a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. The Mexican boxing star still dreams of getting revenge for his 2013 loss, but he knows it's unlikely to happen.

Alvarez has built an impressive career since that defeat. He's fought nearly 70 times as a pro and won world titles in four weight divisions. In 2021, he became the first undisputed super-middleweight champion of the four-belt era. Just this month, on May 3, he added the IBF title to his collection by beating William Scull.

Now, as he gets ready for his next big fight against Terence 'Bud' Crawford on September 13 in Las Vegas, Alvarez still thinks about the one that got away.

"Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it's not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn."

The fight Alvarez is talking about took place back in 2013. Mayweather won by majority decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, handing Alvarez his first defeat.

Since then, Mayweather has retired with a perfect 50-0 record. His last fight was a crossover showdown with MMA star Conor McGregor in 2017. At 48 years old, it's hard to imagine the Michigan native coming out of retirement for another bout.

Alvarez, on the other hand, is still going strong at 34. The fighter from Guadalajara, Mexico, continues to take on tough challenges. His upcoming fight with Crawford promises to be another big test.

While a rematch with Mayweather remains a dream, Alvarez's focus is firmly on the future and the opponents he can face in the ring today.
