Carl Froch Reveals Surprising Take on Billy Joe Saunders' Future: "He's Got One More Shot"

Saunders hasn't stepped in the ring since May 2021. His last fight ended in a loss to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in a super-middleweight unification bout. Saunders retired on his stool between rounds after Alvarez's uppercut broke his orbital bone.

Before that, Saunders had a solid career. He held world titles at middleweight and was the IBF super-middleweight champion. He beat some big names like David Lemieux and Andy Lee. In 2015, he edged out Chris Eubank Jr in a close fight.

Now, Saunders is talking about coming back at 175lbs. He wants to win a world title in a third weight class. Eubank's recent win over Conor Benn seems to have lit a fire under 'BJS,' who has ramped up his plans to return. There's talk of a rematch with Eubank Jr.

But Carl Froch isn't buying it. In a recent chat on Sporting Talk, Froch shared his doubts about Saunders' comeback plans.

"Has he dropped weight? If he's talking about fighting Chris Eubank Jr, f**k knows how he's gonna make 160 … I don't think Billy Joe has any intention of fighting. If he did, I don't think he could make super-middleweight [again.] Have you seen the size of him?"

Froch doesn't think Saunders really wants to fight again. He points out that Saunders might struggle to make weight, even for super-middleweight. The former champ questions if Saunders has lost any weight at all.

It looks like Saunders has a lot of work to do if he wants to prove Froch wrong and make a successful return to the ring.
