Jake Paul has fired shots at Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez ahead of the Mexican's fight with Terence Crawford. The YouTuber-turned-boxer claims Alvarez is past his prime and predicts a lackluster bout between the two champions.
Paul's comments come on the heels of Alvarez's recent victory over William Scull on May 3 in Saudi Arabia. While Alvarez secured a unanimous decision win and retained his WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO super middleweight titles, some critics felt he could have performed better against the Cuban challenger.
Never one to mince words, Paul boldly stated he would have outperformed Scull against Alvarez. He said:
"100 per cent (I would have done better than Scull), no doubt, I would have beaten Canelo, and this is what I've been saying: he's finished"
Paul's critique didn't stop there. He also shared his thoughts on the upcoming September 13 clash between Alvarez and Crawford, suggesting the fight might not live up to the hype:
"Obviously (it will be a better fight) Crawford is a great fighter, Canelo is a great fighter, but I think this has more publicity than substance. We just saw them come out of a boring fight, they're probably going to run in the 12 rounds"
While Paul acknowledges the skill of both Alvarez and Crawford, he believes the bout will generate more buzz than action in the ring.
The outspoken Paul has long angled for a fight with Alvarez, but the Mexican champion has chosen other opponents, including Scull and now Crawford. Paul isn't sitting idle, though. He's got his own fight on the horizon, scheduled to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
As Alvarez prepares to defend his super middleweight crowns against Crawford, Paul's comments add another layer of intrigue to an already highly anticipated matchup. Boxing fans will have to wait until September 13 to see if Paul's predictions hold any water or if Alvarez and Crawford can deliver a fight that lives up to expectations.
