Benn's stock rose despite losing a points decision to Chris Eubank Jr in a 12-round war at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. After that fight, Benn told DAZN he'd be open to facing Garcia if a rematch with Eubank didn't happen.
"If it's not Eubank next, I'll have Garcia next. I'll drop back down to 147 and go straight back in. At 147 is where I'm most dangerous. That's where you see the clinical knockouts."
But Garcia's poor showing against Romero in his welterweight debut has changed Benn's tune. In an interview with iFL TV in New York, Benn didn't hold back his thoughts on Garcia's performance.
"That was a very disappointing performance. That was terrible."
When asked if he still wanted to fight Garcia, Benn's response was clear:
"Nah. Definitely not. Not interested."
Benn, who's 28, feels he's at his best at 147 pounds. He believes that's where he shows his most clinical knockouts. His recent fight with Eubank Jr was at a catch weight, with Eubank's natural size giving him an advantage. Eubank's excellent output tired Benn in the closing rounds.
Now, Benn's focus seems to be on a rematch with Eubank Jr. He thinks it's "locked in" for September. But there might be a snag - Eubank's team could try to change the terms, especially the rehydration clause.
As for Garcia, his future plans aren't clear. His loss to Romero has put a damper on a possible rematch with Devin Haney later this year. Instead, he might end up facing Romero again.
