Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The 39-year-old son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. says he's ready to knock out Paul and send him back to making videos full-time.
Chavez Jr. spoke to ES News through an interpreter, emphasizing his desire to defeat Paul.
"The opportunity to beat him is the important thing about this fight, so I fight with him because I want to beat him, and that is the most important thing for me."
When asked about a possible "no-knockout" clause, Chavez Jr. firmly denied any such agreement:
"No, it's a real fight. I don't sign that kind of thing. It's a genuine competition. No scripts, no tricks, no oversized gloves."
The Mexican boxer aims to "avenge" Mike Tyson, who he feels was humiliated by Paul in their November 15 fight at AT&T; Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson has been close to the Chavez family, with Junior adoring him since childhood.
Chavez Jr.'s career has been irregular lately, and he's not seen as a particularly dangerous opponent. A loss to Paul could potentially end his boxing career. Despite this, he's confident in his ability to win and encourages fans to buy the pay-per-view.
Jake Paul has gained notoriety for his boxing matches, which some view as "bizarre parties" with questionable opponents. Chavez Jr. insists this fight will be different, promising a real competition without any restrictions.
The June 28 bout will test Chavez Jr.'s claims and could have significant implications for both fighters' careers.
