Jake Paul is getting ready for a busy summer in the boxing ring. The YouTuber-turned-boxer will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, with plans already in place for his next fight in November.
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the upcoming matches for Paul. The first bout will take place on June 28 in Anaheim, California. Paul will step into the ring with Chavez Jr, a former middleweight world champion and son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. The fight is set for 10 rounds in the cruiserweight division.
Paul comes into this fight with 11 professional bouts under his belt. His last outing was a controversial win against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, where Paul weighed in at 227 pounds.
Hearn shared his thoughts on the matchup with Chavez Jr:
"If Chavez come in in any kind of shape, with any kind of desire, it's not a terrible fight. We know that Gervonta [Davis] is going to fight Jake Paul in November and then we'll see what happens, if there's an AJ fight."
The promoter added:
"It would be interesting to go from Gervonta Davis to Anthony Joshua. I don't think the Chavez fight is terrible. I think it's a smart bit of business. Hopefully Chavez can get himself up for it. He doesn't have too long, he's been through a lot, but he was once a decent fighter a long time ago."
After the Chavez Jr bout, Paul's camp has already set their sights on a November clash with Gervonta Davis, the current WBA Lightweight World Champion. This matchup raised eyebrows due to the significant weight difference between the two fighters. Davis typically fights at 135 pounds, while Paul weighed 227 pounds in his last fight.
The proposed Paul-Davis fight will likely be more of a spectacle than a sanctioned professional bout. It comes on the heels of Davis' recent controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr, which earned Roach an immediate rematch.
Hearn also hinted at a potential future matchup between Paul and heavyweight star Anthony Joshua, though this remains speculative at this point.
As Paul continues his boxing journey, these upcoming fights will test his skills against more experienced opponents. The boxing world will be watching closely to see how the social media star fares in these challenging matchups.
