Garcia's first pro loss came against Davis in a 7th round knockout at 136 pounds. He claimed the catchweight severely limited his performance, saying he got knocked down twice because he was weak.
"It wasn't a hard fight I was just weak," Garcia said about his bout with Davis.
Later, Garcia moved up to 140 pounds to face Haney. He failed to make weight, coming in at 143 pounds. This made him ineligible to win the WBC Super-Lightweight World Title.
The fight with Haney initially ended in a majority decision win for Garcia, who knocked Haney down three times. But the result was later changed to a no-contest when Garcia tested positive for a banned substance twice.
Despite the outcome, Garcia rates Haney higher than Davis. In a recent video, he stated:
"Haney caught me. Haney is a harder fight than Gervonta."
Garcia even went as far as to predict:
"I would beat Gervonta Davis worse than I beat Devin Haney."
However, Garcia doesn't see a rematch with Davis happening anytime soon. He said, "Gervonta would never fight me at 145 so it doesn't really matter."
Both Garcia and Haney are moving towards the welterweight division at 147 pounds. Haney will first face Jose Ramirez at a 144-pound catchweight before making the full move up. Garcia is set to fight Rolando Romero next.
Davis, on the other hand, remains at 135 pounds. He's gearing up for an immediate rematch with Lamont Roach Jr after their controversial draw in a WBA World Title defense. The highest weight Davis has fought at is 140 pounds, and he's unlikely to join Haney and Garcia at 147 pounds in the near future.
If both Garcia and Haney win their upcoming fights, there's talk of a potential rematch between them. This could settle the score and give fans a clearer picture of where these talented boxers stand in relation to each other.
