Mike Tyson thinks David Benavidez will beat everyone in his division. The former heavyweight champion called Benavidez "underrated" and said other fighters are right to fear him.
Tyson started boxing professionally in 1985. He won his first 19 fights by stoppage, with 12 of those knockouts coming in the first round. Just 18 months into his career, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion ever when he knocked out Trevor Berbick in two rounds for the WBC title.
Now retired, Tyson keeps a close eye on today's boxing scene. He recently shared his thoughts on WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez in an interview with ESNEWS.
"I like him against everybody," Tyson said. "He's so underrated but so over-polarised here. Listen, I'd be afraid to fight him too if I was in that division. No one even has a chance against him, and I'm talking facts."
Benavidez, known as "The Monster," got the WBC light-heavyweight title after Dmitry Bivol gave it up. Before that, Benavidez was the interim WBC champion at 175 pounds.
At 28 years old, the fighter from Phoenix, Arizona, is expected to do great things at light-heavyweight and beyond. He'll likely defend his WBC light-heavyweight title for the first time in the next few months.
Tyson's career ended last November when he lost to Jake Paul in Texas. But his words still carry weight in the boxing world, and his praise for Benavidez shows just how highly regarded the young champion is becoming.
