Crawford and Alvarez sit at the top of boxing alongside Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian became undisputed heavyweight champion in May when he beat Tyson Fury. Crawford and Alvarez have both achieved that status in multiple divisions.
For the super-middleweight belts to be on the line, Alvarez must beat William Scull in May. If he does, his WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF titles will be up for grabs against Crawford.
Usyk shared his thoughts on the fight. Initially, he favored Crawford.
"I like Terence. He's a crazy man. Terence win. Listen, Terence is different man. Terence works on two sides. Right and left, he's very smart man. He feels distance and space."
Usyk said this on The 3 Knockdown Rule Podcast. He believed Crawford could box Canelo "like a big guy" despite the size difference.
However, Usyk changed his mind. In a recent interview with TNT Sports, he said:
"Very hard. 50-50."
Alvarez has a busy schedule ahead. After his May fight with Scull and the September clash with Crawford, he's already talking about another opponent. The details of that fight remain under wraps.
ESPN calls the Canelo-Crawford fight one of the biggest in boxing history. Fans will have to wait until September to see if it lives up to the hype.
