Jake Paul's boxing career takes a big step forward. The YouTuber-turned-boxer will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28, 2025, in a 10-round cruiserweight bout.
Paul's recent win over Mike Tyson raised eyebrows in the boxing community. Many criticized Paul for taking on retired fighters. Now, he's up against Chavez Jr., a seasoned veteran with years of experience in the ring.
Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, shared his thoughts on the match-up:
"People keep saying Jake Paul is not a real fighter. Well, he's fighting a real fighter now. It's going to be a good test for both guys."
De La Hoya pointed out that this fight will provide compelling storylines for both fighters. He compared it to the 2017 bout between Canelo Alvarez and Chavez Jr., where Canelo won by unanimous decision but couldn't knock out or hurt his opponent.
"Imagine if Jake can hurt or even wobble Chavez Jr. It's something that Canelo didn't do. There's a lot of great stories to come out of this."
The announcement comes after hopes of a Paul vs Canelo showdown were dashed. Canelo recently signed a four-fight deal with Saudi chairman Turki Alalshikh, with his first match against William Scull set for May 3.
When asked about a potential fight with Paul, Canelo said:
"Maybe at the end of my career, when I'm retired, we'll see."
For now, all eyes are on Paul as he prepares to face Chavez Jr. It's a chance for the social media star to prove himself against a fighter with high-profile bouts under his belt. With De La Hoya's backing, the pressure is on for Paul to deliver in the ring.
