Usyk's had a great run lately. He beat Tyson Fury twice to become the undisputed heavyweight champ in 2024. But he had to give up the IBF belt to fight Fury again in December. That fight ended with Fury retiring.
Now Usyk wants that IBF belt back. It's currently held by Dubois, who got it after Usyk let it go. If Usyk wins, he'll be a two-time undisputed champ. That's a big deal, especially since he's almost 40 and nearing the end of his career.
These two have history. They fought in August 2023, and it didn't end without drama. The ref called a low blow on Dubois and gave Usyk time to recover. Some people thought that was unfair and that Dubois should've won.
Eddie Hearn, a big name in boxing promotion, talked about the potential rematch in an interview with iFL TV. He said:
"As I understand it, that's a fight that they're trying to make, everybody, Frank and the Board, and I presume Usyk and the team and DAZN of course, it's a good fight. Dubois is definitely in with a shout there to become undisputed, so hopefully another big fight for British Boxing."
It looks like a lot of people are working to make this happen. Frank Warren, the British Boxing Board of Control, Usyk's team, and DAZN are all involved in the talks. They're reportedly in the final stages of sorting it out.
Usyk's even managed to put off a mandatory defense against Joseph Parker to make this fight happen. Frank Warren thinks this could be boxing's biggest fight right now.
For Dubois, it's a chance to prove himself against one of the best. For Usyk, it's about cementing his legacy. It's shaping up to be a fight that fans won't want to miss.
