Moses Itauma has made a bold claim about his boxing skills. The 20-year-old knockout artist says he's better than Oleksandr Usyk, the current undisputed heavyweight champion.
Usyk has had an impressive run in the heavyweight division. He became the undisputed champion in May 2024 and has beaten Tyson Fury twice. He's also got wins over Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, and Derek Chisora. Many people think he's the best heavyweight in the world right now.
But Itauma doesn't agree. In a recent chat with Talksport, he said:
"I think with my skillset, my ring IQ and what I display in the ring, I feel like I am the best in the world."
Itauma's got a perfect record so far, with 11 wins and 9 knockouts. His last fight was a quick one - he knocked out Demsey McKean in just 117 seconds.
When comparing himself to Usyk, Itauma said:
"I feel I've got a better skillset than him, but I feel like towards the later rounds he'll just outdo me because I've never been in that sort of fight."
Itauma knows he needs more experience in longer fights. He's got a fight coming up in May against Mike Balogun, which might help with that.
It's worth noting that Itauma missed his chance to break Mike Tyson's record as the youngest world heavyweight champion. But he's still young and has time to make his mark in the division.
Usyk, meanwhile, is still at the top of his game. He beat Tyson Fury again in December 2024, cementing his place as the top heavyweight.
Time will tell if Itauma can back up his big words. For now, he's got to focus on getting more experience and working his way up the ranks.
