Jake Paul is getting ready to step back into the ring. The YouTuber-turned-fighter from Cleveland, Ohio will soon announce his next bout, and it looks like he'll face former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Paul, now 28, has built an impressive 11-1 record in boxing. He's beaten some big names like Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. His only loss came against Tommy Fury, the brother of former heavyweight champ Tyson Fury. That fight was Paul's toughest test in traditional boxing so far.
In his last fight, Paul won a unanimous decision against Mike Tyson. He got Tyson to come out of retirement after almost 20 years for an eight-round battle. It was a big win for Paul, but some people thought it was controversial.
Paul has been trying to set up fights with stars like Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gervonta Davis, but those haven't worked out. Now, it seems he's found his next opponent in Chavez Jr.
Chavez Jr has been calling Paul out since his win over Tyson. He's the son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez and a former world champ himself. But his career has been up and down lately. He lost to Canelo in 2017 and had a controversial fight with Danny Jacobs where he quit in the fifth round, making fans angry.
Chavez Jr hasn't fought much in recent years. His last fight was in July 2024 when he beat former UFC fighter Uriah Hall. Before that, he lost to Anderson Silva, who Paul later defeated.
It's interesting that Paul is taking this fight now. Back in December, he said:
"I want someone tougher. And I want a real belt. Not just something put up for entertainment value, so, it's great and all but honestly he's easy work and I want someone tougher to shut people up."
WBA president Gilberto Mendoza has said he'd like to see Paul and Chavez Jr fight for some kind of title. We'll have to wait and see if that happens.
The fight is expected to take place this summer. We should get more details in the next few days. It'll be interesting to see how Paul does against a former world champion boxer, even if Chavez Jr isn't at his peak anymore.
