Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to face off in a middleweight clash on April 26th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Liam Smith, the only boxer to have knocked out Eubank Jr, has shared his thoughts on the outcome.
Smith, a former WBO light-middleweight champion, believes Eubank Jr will come out on top. He bases this prediction on Eubank's size advantage and his current fighting style.
"I'm not 100% sold on the winner but I'll probably head towards Eubank on points. Just size-wise. Conor is small, I think Chris might rob a points win, he'll jab, he'll be cagey. That's his style now."
Eubank Jr has faced defeat three times in his 37-fight career. He lost on points to George Groves and Billy Joe Saunders. His only stoppage loss came at the hands of Smith in early 2023. Six months later, Eubank Jr got his revenge with a stoppage win in their rematch.
Smith notes that Eubank's fighting style has changed significantly since their bouts.
"He's not the Chris of old where he loves a fight and is ferocious and loves a high work rate. He's cagey, he holds a lot, and I don't think he'll give Conor a chance."
Benn faces a tough challenge as he moves up two weight divisions for this contest. The fight was originally scheduled to take place earlier, but Benn failed a drug test, leading to its cancellation. Eubank Jr fought Smith instead.
In their previous matchup, Eubank Jr had to cut down to what many considered an unhealthy weight. This time, he'll have the weight advantage on his side.
Smith's prediction stems from Eubank's new tactical approach and his physical advantages. However, in boxing, anything can happen. Fans will have to wait until April 26th to see if Smith's prediction comes true.
