Floyd Mayweather's undefeated record doesn't sit right with Evander Holyfield. The former heavyweight champion thinks Mayweather should have lost to Manny Pacquiao in their big fight.
Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record. He won world titles in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight and was the biggest star in boxing. His fights against Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, and Oscar De La Hoya were some of the highest-grossing events in recent history.
But Holyfield, known as "The Real Deal", doesn't buy it. He thinks Pacquiao did enough to beat Mayweather when they fought.
"I totally thought he did [win the fight]," Holyfield said. "I actually thought Pacquiao was doing well."
Holyfield explained his reasoning:
"The fact of the matter is, you're the more aggressive one, you hit him with the shots… Pacquiao seem to hit him (Mayweather) more times than he hit Pacquiao."
It's not the first time a boxing legend has questioned one of Mayweather's wins. The late, great George Foreman once named a fight he felt Mayweather should have lost too.
Holyfield knows a thing or two about controversial decisions. Many fans thought he got lucky with a draw against Lennox Lewis in March 1999. He also had a famous fight with Foreman back in April 1991.
Holyfield's comments on the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight have added fuel to the debate about Mayweather's legacy. While the record books show Mayweather as undefeated, it's clear not everyone agrees with every decision that got him there.
