"Tank" Davis, the big-punching Baltimore native, entered the ring as the favorite against Roach Jr., who moved up from super-featherweight for this opportunity. The fight turned out to be more competitive than many expected, with Roach trading effectively against the renowned knockout artist.

The pivotal moment came in the ninth round. Davis suddenly took a knee and retreated to his corner, claiming grease from a recent hair appointment had gotten into his eyes. Referee Steve Willis didn't give a count, a decision that's now under scrutiny.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson weighed in on the incident. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, "Iron Mike" stated:

"Yeah, the point should've been taken away. Regardless about what was in his eyes, he took the knee, he should've got the point taken away. Whatever the rules called for."

Tyson's opinion adds fuel to the controversy. If the referee had scored the ninth round 10-8 for Roach, the challenger would have won a unanimous decision and claimed Davis' WBA belt.

Roach's team appealed the result to the New York State Athletic Commission, but their request was rejected. Now, both fighters look set to settle the score. PBC is working on organizing an immediate rematch, tentatively scheduled for late June.

The unexpected draw and controversial knee incident have turned what looked like a routine title defense into one of the most talked-about fights of the year. Boxing fans will surely be watching closely when these two step into the ring again.
