Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn are set to face off in a middleweight bout on April 26, nearly three years after their first scheduled fight fell through.
The match will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, continuing a rivalry that started with their fathers in the 1990s. The fighters were supposed to meet almost three years ago, but Benn tested positive for a banned substance twice, leading to a provisional suspension.
Benn's suspension was lifted late last year, and he got approval to fight in the UK. His team quickly rearranged the bout with Eubank Jr.
Eubank Jr. has had a busy time since their cancelled fight. Liam Smith stopped him in their first match, but Eubank Jr. turned the tables in the rematch. He then knocked out Kamil Szeremeta late last year.
Benn, on the other hand, has fought twice at super-welterweight since his return. He won on points against both Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson.
Roy Jones Jr., a celebrated fighter and Eubank's former trainer, shared his thoughts on the fight with George Groves Boxing Club.
"The only way he's gonna beat Eubank is if he's flat on his back."
Jones believes Eubank Jr. learned not to underestimate opponents from his fight with Liam Smith and should apply this lesson. He advised Eubank to "just go out there and be Chris."
For Benn, Jones pointed out that moving up to middleweight (160) puts the odds against him. He can't outbox Eubank due to the size difference, so he must aim for a knockout, following his family's reputation for punching power.
"He needs to gamble and make something happen," Jones said, suggesting Benn should aim to land a big left hook or overhand right.
The fight will be broadcast on Sky Sports Box Office. Fans are eager to see if Benn can overcome the weight difference and pull off an upset, or if Eubank Jr. will use his size advantage to dominate the fight.
