Muhammad Ali once called out George Foreman and Joe Frazier for turning down fights with Alvin 'Blue' Lewis. The heavyweight legend made this revelation in an interview with RTE's Cathal O'Sannon, which has recently resurfaced.

Ali, often called the greatest fighter in the history of boxing, explained his decision to face Lewis in 1972. His charisma and unique fighting style made him a standout figure during the golden era of heavyweights.

The boxer who shocked the world by stopping Sonny Liston after six rounds to become world heavyweight champion in Miami in 1964 said:

"Well I'm fighting Lewis for one reason, and mainly because Frazier won't fight him, George Foreman top notch fighter wouldn't fight him, Jerry Quarry wouldn't fight him."

Ali went on to explain the business side of boxing, shedding light on why top fighters often avoid risky opponents:

"With most boxers and manager this is just a business and they figure well they got a top contender and he's barely on top and they don't want to take a chance and lose unless they're paid great."

The heavyweight icon pointed out that while Lewis was a dangerous opponent, he wasn't famous enough to generate the big paydays that would make the risk worthwhile for established stars.

"Top notch fighters fighting 'Blue' Lewis can't receive the proper pay because he's not famous but yet he's got a chance to beat them and they have nothing to gain but everything to lose."

Ali took on the challenge himself, facing Lewis in a non-title showdown at Croke Park, Ireland, in 1972. He knocked out Lewis in the eleventh round.

This revelation adds another layer to Ali's legacy. He didn't just beat the best; he also took on fighters others avoided. It's a testament to the fearless attitude that helped make him a legend in the ring.
