Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are set to face off in Las Vegas this September. The match will bring together two of boxing's best pound-for-pound fighters.
Crawford's got a big challenge ahead. He'll jump up two weight classes from super-welterweight to super-middleweight. If he wins, he'll grab world honors in his fifth division. That's no small feat for a guy who's already held undisputed titles at 140lbs and 147lbs. Last August, Crawford snagged the WBA title at 154lbs by beating Israil Madrimov.
Canelo's not sitting idle either. He's gearing up for a fight in May against William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His WBC, WBA, and WBO titles will be on the line, and he'll have a shot at unifying the IBF title too.
If Crawford pulls this off, he'll become a three-weight undisputed champion. That's a pretty big deal in the boxing world.
Devin Haney, the former undisputed lightweight champ and current WBC super-lightweight champ, thinks Crawford's got what it takes. In a recent interview, Haney said:
"I can't go against Crawford. I f**k with Crawford. I like him in the ring, out the ring, I think that he's the best right now. I'm rocking with Crawford."
Haney's got his own fight coming up. He'll face Jose Ramirez on May 2 in Times Square, New York.
The boxing world can't wait for September. With Canelo and Crawford set to clash, we're in for a real treat.
