Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. are set to face off in a middleweight bout on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The fight will happen at 160 pounds, a step up in weight for Benn.
The match-up has been a long time coming. It was first scheduled for October 2022 but got called off when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. That led to Benn being suspended from fighting in Britain for over two years. He got cleared to fight again late last year.
These two fighters have a history that goes way back. They're known for being entertaining both in and out of the ring. The weight difference could play a big role in the fight. Eubank Jr. is naturally bigger and has more experience at higher weights. He's even fought world champions like George Groves at super-middleweight.
Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury thinks the weight advantage will give Eubank Jr. the edge. But Benn isn't worried about losing. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Benn made it clear he won't retire even if he loses:
"Listen I'm 28, he's done what he's had to do in his career. He's finished. No, of course [I won't retire], not that I think I will lose the fight, not that I plan on losing the fight. The reality is you can lose fights, I will lose fights in my career, but not to this man."
Eubank Jr., on the other hand, says he'll hang up his gloves if Benn beats him.
The build-up to the fight has already had some drama. Eubank Jr. got fined for smashing an egg into Benn's face during their first press conference. It looks like we're in for an exciting lead-up to fight night.
