Canelo Alvarez Shares Surprising Scorecard for Davis-Roach Bout: "I Didn't Expect That"

Many fans expected Davis to cruise to victory at the Barclays Center in New York. Roach, however, put up a tough fight and found success throughout the bout. The match took an unexpected turn in the ninth round when Davis voluntarily took a knee.

The referee started counting but then stopped, deciding not to score it as a knockdown. This moment proved crucial, as a 10-8 round for Roach would have changed the final result.

When the scorecards came in, one judge saw it 115-113 for Davis, while two others scored it 114-114. The fight ended in a majority draw, surprising many observers.

Speaking on Hot 97, Canelo shared his thoughts on the fight:

"Yeah my opinion it was a draw. He takes a knee and plus the corner go up and put a towel in the face. That's a disqualification for sure. I'm talking about the rules but that's not my business."

Alvarez's comments highlight the controversial nature of the ninth-round incident. The Mexican star suggests that Davis's actions, combined with his corner's interference, could have led to a disqualification under strict interpretation of the rules.

Davis and Roach will get a chance to settle the score, as they're set to meet in a rematch this summer. The boxing world will watch closely to see if the second fight can provide a more definitive outcome.

As for Canelo, he's got his own busy schedule ahead. He'll face William Scull in May before a potential blockbuster bout with Terence Crawford in September. These fights will give fans plenty to look forward to in the coming months.
