Jake Paul's unconventional boxing career keeps people talking. The former YouTuber built his name on viral moments, drama, and fights against aging legends. Now, Floyd Mayweather's name pops up again in the conversation.
Mayweather called out Paul in a 2025 interview with US Weekly. He didn't mince words about the potential matchup.
"We offered Jake Paul the fight probably 10 or 20 times, and he turned us down. So that's bulls-."
The 48-year-old boxer doubled down on his confidence during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked about fighting Jake Paul, Mayweather simply said, "At 48, too easy."
Paul fired back in a vlog with his brother Logan. He claimed the real issue was Mayweather's strict weight limit demands.
"He wouldn't sign though. He said I have to weigh 160. It's not even physically possible."
The weight difference makes an officially sanctioned fight nearly impossible. Paul weighed 227 lbs in his last fight against Mike Tyson, while Mayweather typically fought around 150 lbs. That's over a 70-pound gap.
Mayweather suggested a workaround: "Well... we could do an exhibition. That's easy work, super easy." This type of bout could bypass traditional weight class restrictions.
The undefeated boxer also took a jab at Paul's fight history. "Mike Tyson was a 60-year-old man. He's an old man. Mike Tyson is enjoying his life. It is what it is," Mayweather said.
Mayweather's career stands in stark contrast to Paul's. He retired undefeated and has dabbled in exhibition fights since then. In 2021, he faced Jake's brother Logan in one such exhibition. These days, Mayweather focuses on promoting his new supplement line.
Paul, on the other hand, transitioned from YouTube fame to boxing. His biggest win came against 58-year-old Mike Tyson. The YouTuber-turned-boxer wants a full-on sanctioned bout, while Mayweather prefers an exhibition.
The boxing landscape changed with the YouTube era, creating unlikely matchups. Money often makes these improbable fights happen. For now, a Mayweather-Paul bout remains a "what if" with no official deal on the table.
