Garcia faced Davis in April 2023 at a 136lb catchweight. Davis won that fight by knockout in the seventh round, dropping Garcia twice. A year later, in April 2024, Garcia took on Haney. In that bout, Garcia knocked Haney down multiple times and got the win on points. Unfortunately, the result changed to a no contest when Garcia failed a drug test.
After these fights, Garcia offered a surprising comparison of his opponents' power. In a recent video, he said:
"Haney caught me, Gervonta I didn't really [feel anything]. It wasn't a hard fight I was just weak."
Garcia blamed his performance against Davis on a 10-pound rehydration clause in their contract. He claims this rule left him severely weakened for the fight.
Garcia went on to make a bold prediction:
"It's not a hard fight for me. You guys can pull up the picture of me how I looked for Tank and how I looked for Haney. I would beat Gervonta Davis worse than I beat Devin Haney."
He also added:
"Haney is a harder fight than Gervonta. Gervonta would never fight me at 145 so it doesn't really matter."
A rematch with Davis doesn't seem likely anytime soon. However, Garcia and Haney might meet in the ring again. They're set to have a second fight if both win their bouts on the same card in May.
These comments from Garcia have certainly stirred up interest in potential rematches. Fans will be eager to see if he can back up his words in future fights.
