Moses Itauma, a 20-year-old heavyweight boxer, believes he's got what it takes to beat Daniel Dubois, the current IBF champion. The young fighter is confident he'll come out on top when they eventually face off in the ring.
Itauma's career is off to a strong start. He's won all 11 of his fights so far, with 9 of those wins coming by knockout. His most notable victories have been against Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach. But it's not just his fight record that's impressive. Itauma has also sparred with some of the biggest names in heavyweight boxing, including Tyson Fury, Joe Joyce, Anthony Joshua, and even Daniel Dubois himself.
The young boxer has set his sights on becoming one of the youngest-ever world champions. When asked about the current crop of heavyweights, Itauma didn't hold back. In an interview with BoxNation, he said:
"Honestly, not really. Don't get me wrong there are some great fighters but once the Usyks, the Furys and the Joshuas are gone, I don't really see much talent but there are some guys learning their trade."
But Itauma did give credit where it's due. Speaking about Dubois, he said:
"Of course, you have to rate Daniel, he's a very, very good fighter with his career he's had so far, but I feel when me and him meet it's going to be a different story. It's just a matter of time really."
Dubois, the current IBF champion, has had an eventful year. He was supposed to fight Joseph Parker this month, but had to cancel due to a viral infection. Before that, he scored impressive wins against Jarrell Miller in December 2023, Fillip Hrgovic in June 2024, and Anthony Joshua in September 2024.
Now, Dubois has some decisions to make. He could honor his voluntary defense against Joseph Parker, or he might go after an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk, even though Usyk beat him in the summer of 2023.
While Dubois figures out his next move, Joseph Parker didn't sit idle. He took a late stand-in fight against Martin Bakole and won inside two rounds.
Itauma's experience sparring with top heavyweights has clearly given him confidence. As the heavyweight landscape evolves, with fighters like Usyk, Fury, and Joshua at the top, Itauma is positioning himself as the next big thing. Only time will tell if he can back up his bold claims against Dubois and other top contenders.
